More and more people are using mobile smart phones and tablets to access and use the Internet these days. Traditional website design methods made viewing the website on anything other than a PC monitor too small to see without enlarging and scrolling the touch screen found on small screen devices.
This is because the website was just shrunk to fit the screen it was being viewed on.
Responsive website design doesn’t re size the website, it changes the layout, responding to the screen size it’s viewed on, so it will look different viewed on a mobile phone to how it looks on a tablet. This makes the website more user friendly for small screen devices, where fingers are used instead of a mouse to click and complete forms for example.
